Euro-Maghreb cooperation in the fight against illegal immigration
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the theme of regional cooperation in order to reduce the phenomenon of illegal immigration at the Mediterranean level, a phenomenon that has become one of the most important threats to the security and safety of the Mediterranean region, in addition to the terrorism and drug trafficking, according to reports published by international organizations (global and regional).
Given the limited capacities and procedures that each country can follow at its own level, it appeared necessary to establish regional cooperation including the countries concerned, whether as host country, transit country or country of origin of illegal immigrants. This has been done on the basis of initiatives and projects carried out mainly by the European Union, which do not necessarily reflect the aspirations of the countries and peoples of the southern shore of the Mediterranean, due to the priority of European security approach.
