Abstract

Corruption is eating away at the economy of the Algerian state more than ever, and corruption scandals have multiplied all the more as the state coffers are filled with hundreds of billions of dollars, whilst Algeria currently has a huge foreign exchange reserve. Algeria has accompanied international efforts by joining the United Nations Convention against Corruption in 2004 and then by promulgating Law No. 06-01 on the prevention and fight against corruption, which reflects the conviction of the Algerian State that corruption is no longer an internal affair, but has become a transnational phenomenon that affects all societies, making the fight against its elimination a responsibility of all States, with the support and participation of individuals and groups outside the public sector, such as civil society and non-governmental organizations.
