Résumé

The Holy Qur'an is the Book of Allah for the ('Alameen) mankind and Jinn, Arab and foreigners to guide them to the right path, but how such a global message should be conveyed to the foreign readers? There is no doubt that it should be conveyed by a translation into the foreign languages in the time the Muslims' scholars differentiate about the translatability of such expressions and about the type of translation that must be used if it is possible. Considering the English language is the language of the world today and most the population around the world are learning the Qur'an through its English translations; so the article comes to study the meanings used by translators as equivalents of Death expressions in two surahs and verses in the Holy Qur'an, they are; جَاثِمِيْنَ jathimin in [AL'araf : 91] and خَامِدُونَ khamidoun in[Yaseen : 29]. this article reviews the meanings of the Qur'anic expressions and their transaltions in five English translations of the Qur'an in an analytic and a comparative way, this happens by discussing death meanings and their translations by the aid of Arabic authentic exegeses, Arabic/Arabic dictionaries and English/English dictionaries to show the negative and positive aspects of these translations and to what extent the translators can render the meanings of such expressions to the English readers perfectly and precisely, the article closes with brief conclusion and some suggestions
