Linguistic approximation and information exchange: scientific community and society.
Abstract
This article raises the reflection on the importance of language and communication in the relationship between scientists and society. Several reasons support this reflection : the lack of knowledge or the difficulty of understanding science by the general public, inaccurate or partial media coverage, inequalities in the distribution of the benefits and costs of science among different social groups, the absence of public control, and the limited ability of some scientists to express their ideas comprehensibly . Increasingly, scientists are compelled to collaborate with decision-makers and the general public to find solutions and implement measures in response to issues with both local and global implications, with the aim of improving the quality of communication.
