Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to investigate George Sand's novel "The Devil’s Pool" in view to discover the first beginnings of novel writing in France, mainly the interest of some of the writers of that period in the high human values that glorify all the positive aspects of life. In her narrative, George Sand's approach was not the same as her time's artists whom dominant theme was the idea of the inevitability of death, while Sand preferred the idea of sanctifying love, truth, work and struggle as creative principles. This simple narrative is a model of the words conveyed by novelists which will later on have the desired impact on addressing human flaws and reflecting reality to the letter.
