Spaces, values and characters in the Novel « The lézarde » of Edouard Glissant
Abstract
In the half of the 20th Century, the problèm of memory occupies a central theme in the rep caribbean literature. Confronted by the tragedy of the transatlantic crossing, the caribbean writer is still bent over the drama of his past. Seeking to constantly excavate the sections of history, the latter rehabilitates the heroic figures. We are witnessing the emergence of myths : one is the founder of the mountain revolution « maroon »or the fugitive slave and the author of the prophetic word «the quimboiseur».Given the complexity of the relationships between characters and spaces in Glissant’s novel, we deemed it essential to explore the figurative course of the work. If we consider the character as a meaningful élément within a complex system of figurative images of the story, we must imperatively question the space of the action.
