Abstract

In this article, we study the impact of alternative variables of economic integration on economic and social poverty in Algeria. We represent economic integration by trade openness, which is the basis for integrating the national economy into the global economy. We also consider foreign direct investment (FDI), which is another form of integration into the global economy. We conduct an econometric study of the period from 1980 to 2013 and conclude that there is no impact of trade openness on human poverty in Algeria in the short term. However, there is a possibility of an inverse relationship in the long term. As for FDI in Algeria, our study indicates that it has no impact on the levels of economic and social poverty.
