Abstract

Feminism is a Western-originated movement concerned with women's issues in general, and it is one of the trends within what is known as "postmodernism," similar to cultural studies and postcolonial studies. This paper attempts to examine the Western references that contributed to the emergence of feminism and enriched its arguments, and to define its orientations. The paper will focus on the role of Nietzschean philosophy, which formed the basis of postmodernism, and the role of deconstruction, which promoted the idea of decentralization in the emergence of feminism. We will also address the relationship of this movement to Marxism and literary criticism.
