Abstract

The waves of change and transformation witnessed by Arab societies, and Algerian society in particular, have accelerated. This has led to an awareness of the necessity for change and keeping pace with the times, a reaction that has given rise to a number of movements and currents, most notably the feminist movement. Although the feminist movement is not a product of Arab societies but rather has roots in Western societies, this does not negate its continued relevance to its Arab context, and to Algerian society in particular, with its Arab-Islamic culture. This raises questions about the reality of women and their national identity within these movements, which have addressed issues related to women's affairs and national identity.
