Abstract
It is undeniable that the Arabic novel is an imported narrative genre that emerged as a result of contact with and openness to Western culture. The same applies to the Algerian novel written in Arabic. Contrary to the common belief that "Zainab" by Muhammad Husayn Haykal was the first novel known to the Arab world, we find that "The Tale of Lovers in Love and Longing" by the Algerian author Muhammad ibn Ibrahim is the first novel to appear.
