Abstract
Ibn Rushd is one of the philosophers who awakened the conscience of the world and the Islamic society when he stood against the calls for backwardness and ignorance that prevailed in the era that preceded him. He stood against Al-Ghazali’s calls and his war against free philosophical thinking. He also stood against the calls for intellectual stagnation and the lack of independent reasoning, and he was able to establish the science of interpretation, thus opening the way to transcend and surpass the four schools of thought, in a manner that is appropriate to the era in which we live. We find that the use of the rational method in interpreting religious texts does not contradict the Sharia at all. Ibn Rushd says in the chapter on the treatise: “The Sharia has made it obligatory to look at existing things with reason and consider them. By consideration, he means deducing the unknown from the known and extracting it from it, and this is analogy. Therefore, it is obligatory that we make our look at existing things with rational analogy.”
