Abstract

Ibn Rushd's study of the world was not that of an empiricist seeking to discover general laws by examining particulars, but rather that of a philosopher striving for a holistic view to explain the purpose inherent in the universe. The roots of our scientific thought in the twelfth century have astronomical implications for Ibn Rushd's natural philosophy project and its role in modern scientific thought in the field of natural science, which closely resembles the mechanistic interpretation trend in modern physics, particularly prominent in classical physics.
