Abstract

Research in the field of manuscripts, in terms of cataloging, verifying, producing and publishing them, is one of the most important fields that has received the attention of scholars and researchers. Algeria, like other countries in the Islamic and Arab world, is distinguished by the diversity of its heritage and manuscript production. This is what prompted its researchers, institutions, laboratories and centers specializing in cultural heritage and manuscripts to delve into verifying and studying them, then publishing them and making them available to researchers and scholars in order to benefit from them and to use them. In this article, we will highlight the role played by Algeria in reviving its manuscript heritage, by cataloging, verifying, and publishing it. We will focus on the universities, laboratories, and research centers that played a major role in encouraging researchers to take care of manuscripts. We will highlight the efforts of the National Center for Manuscripts in Algeria, the Laboratory of Manuscripts of Islamic Civilization in North Africa in Oran, and the Laboratory of Algerian Manuscripts in West Africa affiliated with the African University in Adrar, and their contribution to introducing the civilizational and cultural role of Algerian society, and saving many texts that were almost forgotten, and remained for long periods in manuscript centers, libraries, zawiyas, and public and private treasuries.
