Abstract
This study deals with an important topic, which is the strategy of the Orientalists in interpreting the Arab-Islamic heritage, and its dimensions, as the Arab-Islamic heritage was subjected to attacks by the Orientalists, and the European mentality succeeded in controlling the sources of the Islamic heritage through philology, which seeks to understand the texts, with the aim of denying Arab-Islamic thought, and denying its ability to produce rational enlightened thought. I chose the French Orientalist Ernest Renan, as he was concerned with the Arab-Islamic heritage, and I noticed that most of his studies showed hatred for Islam, and even for Islamic civilization in general. It also seemed to me that he was familiar with many sources of the Arab-Islamic heritage, such as pre-Islamic poetry, including poems such as the Mu'allaqat, and his influence by some of the poetic verses of Abu al-Ala al-Ma'arri, and his learning of the Arabic language, and his exposure to the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet's biography, and his reading of al-Hariri's Maqamat, and his familiarity with al-Shahrastani's book al-Milal wa al-Nihal.
