Abstract
The dialectic of technology and freedom under eugenics
Postmodernism constituted a kind of rupture with the concepts related to the era of modernity such as objectivity, totality, determinism, etc., as it dismantled the universals and declared plurality and inevitability, which contributed to the embodiment of the relativity of the concepts of modernity after it was absolute, which in turn destabilized security, stability and balance in the stages of thought. Humanism, which aimed to demolish dominant ideologies in the twentieth century, and what characterized this period was scientific creativity on several levels, especially biology, as it carried with it long-term goals, including the hidden and the overt, and the subject of the human genome and its decoding, one of the most important Topics of genetic engineering of the biotechnological revolution, where many functions of inheritance were discovered, which were used to meet the necessary human needs, which led to the emergence of a new scientific movement, which is genetic improvement, in which several questions were raised that varied in the scientific field, as it proved through them the erosion of ethical principles and the trend towards the unknown. Under the banner of science, and the consecration of human freedom - in form - but science is a double-edged sword, on the one hand it builds and on the other hand it destroys fundamental concepts that establish human humanity, such as freedom, dignity, identity and individuality. That is, it is the right of philosophy to question science about human dignity and the moral values by which the human being should be controlled, albeit in a relative way, in order to rebuild the self-relationship with reality and inherited amidst the tremendous development of technology. On this basis, we pose the following problem:To what extent can ethical limits be placed on the issue of eugenics in order to preserve its dignity and ensure the continuity of its being as an individual enjoying freedom?
