Was Plato right when he classified physical activity among the last concerns of thought, placing, in the first place, intellectual activity and theoretical-abstract reflection? Does the contemplative have the right to take the lead without relying on the body in his existence? Is man a spirit distinct from animality, from the body ... this machine that has long been oppressed and considered only as a support for qualities that surpass it in performance and yield?
Is it logical that the philosopher of unites reason and sports activity? Reason is the producer of culture, accomplishing transcendence and practicing contemplation through thought, while sport finds its source in nature, responding to the call of entertainment, pleasure and liberation from the constraints of the mind. It is the freedom of the body insofar as it frees itself from the laws of thought. Even in its first linguistic meanings, among the ancient Greeks, it was, always, associated with terms such as gambling, entertainment, wandering. Was it not Dionysus, the gambler and the wanderer, in Olympus?... And this is how he agrees with the essence of nature, while the philosopher aspires to examine what goes beyond it: culture and civilization, that is, the products of contemplation and reflection.
