Abstract

Sport has become an important social institution that contributes not only to physical development but also to the transmission of social values and civic principles among younger generations. This theoretical study examines the role of sport as a space for socialization and as a means of promoting citizenship among youth. It highlights the contribution of sporting practices to the acquisition of social norms, respect for rules, cooperation, solidarity, and participation in community life. The study also discusses the challenges that may limit the educational and civic functions of sport, including excessive competitiveness, violence, and commercialization. Based on an analytical review of the literature, the paper argues that sport can serve as an effective tool for fostering responsible, active, and socially engaged citizens when integrated into comprehensive educational and social policies.
