Abstract
This article examines the relationship between theology and politics in the thought of Baruch Spinoza by focusing on his interpretive method in the Theological-Political Treatise. Central to the analysis is the concept of « context, »which Spinoza considers essential for understanding sacred texts within their historical, linguistic, and cultural settings. The article highlights how Spinoza used this contextual approach to challenge dogmatic interpretations that support religious-political tyranny, advocating instead for rational freedom and the separation of religion from state affairs. It demonstrates that, for Spinoza, context is not merely a hermeneutical tool, but a philosophical strategy aimed at liberating human thought and grounding politics in reason and public interest
