Abstract

This article explores the philosophical stance and intellectual style of Georges Canguilhem, examining his early writings and teaching legacy. The author highlights the critical tension between "diagnosis"—the philosophical practice of interrogating the present, challenging established norms, and discerning historical meaning—and "expertise," which merely manages or technicalizes existing institutions and knowledge.

The study examines Canguilhem’s early rejection of the concept of "generation," which he viewed as a form of passive conformity to one's era. Vauday emphasizes Canguilhem's sharp, incisive style and uncompromising rigor, presenting philosophy not as administrative expertise, but as a vital and political diagnosis of scientific rationality and human experience.
