L’afrique : De Gorée à Gao

Abstract

The expression "geological scandal" is widely used to describe Africa's exceptional mineral wealth, but equally scandalous is the poverty that afflicts so many of its inhabitants. After half a century, the record of independence on the continent is stark and appalling. Sad because the cycle of insecurity and disease continues to widen, and while there is a hierarchy of suffering, the first victims are women and children.
