Abstract

Azarnevisi is an Iranian-born professor of English literature who now lives in the United States after spending eighteen years under the rule of the Islamic Republic in Iran. She wrote her autobiographical book, "Reading Lolita in Tehran," to chronicle an important and crucial period in her life and the lives of her students. Therefore, the book is closer to a memoir than an autobiography, considering that a memoir means selecting a specific period and trying to read and analyze it in relation to the political, social, and cultural context and its connection to history, which the writer witnessed or, on rare occasions, was an active participant in.
