Abstract

There is no definitive agreement on the beginning and end of youth, and this difference stems from conflicting definitions of youth and the age at which a person is considered young. It can be described as a stage during which a person transitions from dependency (childhood) to independence (adulthood). For purely statistical purposes, the United Nations defines youth as individuals aged 15-24. Some define it as those aged 15-29. This demographic is considered a valuable asset in all societies, whether developing or developed, if properly utilized, as they constitute the largest segment of society. Currently, young people aged 15-24 make up one-fifth of the world's population, while in many developing countries, they constitute more than half. Algeria has witnessed significant growth in this demographic since independence, and this research aims to shed light on the size of this segment of society using various general population and housing statistics.
