Abstract

The Algerian revolution, through its strength and legitimacy derived from the integrity of its means and ends, was able to gain the support of many who believe in the dignity of peoples and their right to freedom and a secure life. At the individual level, particularly among intellectuals, the stance of the French writer Jean-Paul Sartre stands out. He dedicated himself to defending this cause, despite the difficult position he held as a citizen of the state that denied Algerians their legitimate rights. From this perspective, we find that true commitment lies in the intellectual's adherence to his principles, even if it requires him to oppose the policies of the state that shelters him.
