Abstract

The concern for the body extended to the point of establishing boundaries, rules, standards, and controls that define what is normal and abnormal, familiar and unfamiliar, right and wrong. These boundaries cannot be transgressed except by falling into sin. The matter was no longer simply a matter of top-down, group-based surveillance of the individual, but rather the forms of surveillance became more diverse and multifaceted. The body of the condemned was moved from exposure to secrecy, from torture to punishment, where prison emerged as the ideal penalty. It is based primarily on the principle of depriving individuals of their freedom by isolating them from social life. This involves changing individuals, that is, reforming them by presenting moral rules and instilling a sense of guilt for their past actions, thus accessing the soul of the body. Therefore, how does Foucault approach the relationship between power and the body? And what is the relationship between the body, morality, and law?
