The journal "Silsilat Al-Anwar" is a publication of the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences (EDSSH). It addresses various topics and contents that fall within a common thematic focus pre-determined by its Scientific Council.
Far from being a mere formal imitation of the Enlightenment movement of the 18th and 19th centuries, the journal "Silsilat Al-Anwar" focuses on topics related to scientific application and rational practices. For this reason, the approaches we pursue through this journal aim to illuminate scientific and academic issues related to university practice, while retaining from the philosophy of the "Enlightenment" its continuous defense of the necessity of reason, as Kant stated: "…Have courage to use your own reason! That is the motto of enlightenment" (Immanuel Kant, Answering the Question: What is Enlightenment?, first paragraph). Thus, we hope that collective scientific efforts and synergies within the university framework will remain the sole motto truly expressing the spirit of coexistence and harmony that reflects the image of the Algerian university.
The texts collected in this first issue constitute a reflection and an intersection of critical perspectives on society, alongside a approach based on phenomenological interpretation. This applies to the contributions written in Arabic, as well as a text in German by the author Nadia Bonfika. Major contemporary issues—such as secularization, secularism, the public sphere, the religious phenomenon, media, and communication—are topics that refer to the phenomenological argument in order to respond to the needs of society. This is the same approach adopted by Habermas or Taylor in their perspectives, because concepts such as suspension (Épochè), intersubjectivity, the Other, the bond, and intentionality in the lexicon of Husserl, Heidegger, and Merleau-Ponty cannot be understood except through their relationship with society.
The journal "Silsilat Al-Anwar" represents a new horizon for openness to interdisciplinarity and scientific cooperation. We hope that the contributions of our colleagues from the University of Oran, as well as other national and international universities, will effectively contribute to the continuity of this publication.
