Abstract

This article  explores the dynamics of gender relations in Niger, highlighting the fundamental role of ethics and culture in addressing gender inequalities. Despite women’s substantial economic contributions, they remain significantly excluded from political life and decision-making processes. The author establishes a clear distinction between sex—an unchangeable biological attribute—and gender, which is a dynamic social construct susceptible to cultural transformation.

The paper analyzes how patriarchal traditions and misinterpretations of religious texts (specifically within Islam) perpetuate female subordination. To achieve sustainable social development, the study argues that legal reforms must be complemented by ethical regulation. By leveraging reason, moral imperatives, and a progressive reinterpretation of cultural values, ethics can transform societal attitudes, foster gender equity, respect human dignity, and ensure women's full integration into Niger's socio-political governance.
