الملخص
This article investigates the humanistic approach to English as a Foreign/Second Language (EFL/ESL) teaching, emphasizing the necessity of integrating both affective and cognitive dimensions in the learning process . Drawing upon progressive educational theories and psychological frameworks (John Dewey, Carl Rogers, Abraham Maslow) , humanistic education challenges traditional, teacher-centered paradigms that treat learners as passive recipients of knowledge . Instead, it advocates for a student-centered, democratic classroom environment designed to reduce anxiety, promote self-esteem, build interpersonal closeness, and foster positive thinking alongside linguistic development .
Furthermore, the paper highlights Cooperative Language Learning (CLL) as a key pedagogical strategy to operationalize humanistic values . By incorporating principles such as positive interdependence, individual accountability, and social skill acquisition , CLL engages learners through structured tasks including peer tutoring, jigsaw activities, and cooperative projects . Ultimately, the study concludes that meaningful language acquisition occurs when teaching personalizes the subject matter and respects the "whole person" of both teacher and student .
