Abstract
ABSTRACT: This article aims to make a semiotic analysis of a national emblem, that of Burkinaa Faso, adopted during the period of the Democratic and Popular Revolution, and used precisely from 1984 to 1997. It is a reflection that fits globally in the wake of visual semiotics based on the work of Roland Barthes (1964) and the Group μ with a view to carrying out this reading activity applied to a photographic image. Thus, it will take into account the circularity between plastic signs and iconic signs on the one hand and will also take into account the complementarity between icono-plastic signs and linguistic signs on the other hand. This reflection examines the means and strategies deployed by the enunciator to transmit a statement carrying a political discourse towards the enunciatee. To do so, it starts from the principle that this national emblem is intended above all to be a signifying system who’s overall meaning conveys a political ideology and a very discernible endogenous development project.
