The Impact of the Dissolution of Marital Bonds on Children

Abstract

Numerous studies across various disciplines, particularly in psychology and sociology, indicate that children affected by the dissolution of marital bonds struggle with integration into a new life without the presence of one of their primary caregivers—either the father or the mother—especially in the early stages of separation. However, this is often considered an exception. Despite living with one parent and spending weekends with the other, these children experience a crisis of adaptation between two different environments, which negatively impacts their psychological and physical development.The feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and confusion that divorced parents go through are also experienced by their children—often even more intensely. These children feel lost between two figures who have shifted from being sources of security to sources of tension, pressure, and instability.Building on this, we can question the condition of children affected by the dissolution of marital bonds. Specifically, what difficulties do they encounter in adapting to a new psychological and social life?
