Edward Said’s Worldliness: A reading of the Term

Abstract

This reading aims at introducing Edward Said’s critical cognitive view which expresses a kind of critical consciousness who struggled to wake up critics and intellectuals in their textual experiences. Subsequently، this reading is trying to explore the major features in Said’s strategy of criticism which one of its targets is to correct the shortcomings of textual tendencies within the literary and critical theory contrasted with text historicity and confirmation of its formality that characterized contemporary critical methods such as structuralism post-structuralism and deconstructionism that got lost in literary and textual labyrinth، claiming the independence of theory and literary work from worldly cultural contexts. Said insists that secular criticism is the alternative which includes texts within their material cultural historical requirements، and makes its worldliness part of its textuality and structure.
