Abstract
ABSTRACT: Among the numerous meanings of imagination, in this work, we propose to study the implementation of two specific forms of imagination in two novels from different eras and genres but intersecting on several points. We will delve into the elusive and corrupting imagination in its erudite form in Umberto Eco's " Foucault's Pendulum (Le Pendule de Foucault)" and the’revealing’ imagination in its hallucinatory form in Francesca Zappia's " Je t’ai rêvé (Made You Up)." We will examine the role of imagination in these two novels, the different ways it manifests, the relationships it maintains with reality, and its impact on the characters' relationship with their reality. We will also question the effect of these interferences of imagination into reality on the interpretative adventure undertaken by the reader of these novels. Finally, we will attempt to explain the blend of reality and imagination in contemporary literature and what it reveals about the contemporary conception of reality and the hypermodern man's relationship with his world.
