Abstract
ABSTRACT: In Marguerite Duras' "Le Vice-Consul," the symbolism of the beggar woman is associated with the boundaries of the human experience, characterized by destitution and madness. This adventurous woman is buried beneath the stereotypical images of femininity, a myth of death imposed by collective discourse. Silence. With Marguerite Duras, violence erupts at the heart of language. Under the pressure of difference, the plurality of meanings shatters the unequivocal unity of the body, pleasure, sex, and the desire of discourse.
