Abstract

Reading plays an important role in a child's life, as it strengthens the connection between the child and the world of knowledge. Therefore, attention must be paid to teaching the child to read because it will help him to live a more effective life and acquire a personality with healthy features. Accordingly, the current study aims to reveal the relationship between reading speed (the time spent reading) and reading accuracy (the number of correct read words) among third, fourth- and fifth-year primary school students. In order to reach this goal, the descriptive correlative approach was relied upon with the application of the Arabic reading ability test, which was prepared by the researcher Zadam, and it consisted of 12 items. The results revealed that there is a statistically significant inverse correlation between these two dimensions for students of the three educational levels.
