Abstract

This article examines the impact of religion and ethics on the choice of Algerian and Algerian-French
couples to use medically assisted procreation techniques. The results of the qualitative survey based on semi-structured
interviews conducted in Oran and Lille (France), show that access to certain techniques is claimed by some but is rejected
by others. Patients and doctors are influenced by religious and ethical norms. On the other hand, the religious norm
seems to have less influence on certain couples. Ethics take a place in their lives and often guide their choice,
encouraging the benefits of biomedical progress.
