The effectiveness of horseback riding therapy in improving attention levels in children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract
The current study aims to highlight the effectiveness of horseback riding therapy in improving attention in children with autism spectrum disorder. It also attempts to identify the effects of horseback riding therapy on developing one of the cognitive abilities, attention, in this group of children with autism spectrum disorder. This study uses a case study of a child at the "Al-Amal" Equestrian Sports and Horseback Therapy Association Center in Ben Aknoun Park, Algiers. The child was nine years old and enrolled in the third grade of primary school. We used the following tools: the Stroop test, administered before and after the horseback riding therapy program. A quasi-experimental approach was followed. The results revealed differences between the Stroop test scores in the pre- and post-tests, favoring the post-test. This confirms the effectiveness of horseback riding therapy in improving attention in children.
