Abstract

The Algerian legislator has adopted a two-degrees litigation system in criminal articles after amending the Code of Criminal Procedures by the law 07-17 of March 27, 2017, as a response to the constitutional legislator’s announcement concerning the necessity of ensuring a two-degrees trial for the accused. This amendment has been approved through the special measures applied in the Primary Criminal Court and the Criminal Court of Appeal, and the procedures for the conduct of each of them. This amendment affects the nature of the sentence, whether the guilty verdict or acquittal, given the different procedures as well as the role of judges and jurors.
