International Journal of Multilingualism and Languages for Specific Purposes

The International Journal of Multilingualism and Languages for Specific Purposes (IJMLSP) is a double-blind, peer-reviewed, biannual, free-of-charge, and open-access journal edited by the University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed. The journal publishes original articles, reports, case studies, and book reviews. Its main objective is to provide an intellectual platform for international scholarly communication among researchers, academics, and practitioners for scholarly contributions that examine the multiple intersections between LSP and multilingualism.  IJMLSP Journal is distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach to the different issues relevant to multilingualism, language policy, languages, and cultures teaching. In addition, the journal aims to foster the dialectics between multilingualism and languages for specific purposes (Arabic for specific purposes, English for Specific Purposes, Chinese for Specific Purposes, etc.). With an emphasis on thematic depth rather than geographical diversity, the journal covers global issues related to language use in academic, professional, and specialised contexts. It publishes research that explores how multilingual interlocutors and communities align with the demands of specialised communication across various fields such as Business, Medicine, Law, Science, and Technology.

Topics of interest include the cognitive and social dimensions of multilingualism in professional settings, the elaboration, integration, and adaptation of LSP curricula, discourse analysis in multilingual environments, and the role of translation and interpretation in specialised communication. By prioritizing themes that have universal relevance, the journal features the global importance of multilingual practices in professional domains, while offering insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by multilingualism in increasingly interconnected and specialised industries. Through this focus on thematic research, the journal aims to contribute to the international dialogue encompassing language, communication, and digital literacy across diverse sectors. 

The journal was published in both print and online versions; the online version is free access and downloadable. The journal began its publication as an annual journal in 2019, offering local and African researchers a platform for scholarly work and insights in its respective fields. During its first four years, from 2019 to 2022, the journal adhered to an annual release cycle, providing readers with carefully selected contributions that reflected the latest advancements and trends in the subject matter. However, starting in 2023, the journal transitioned to a biannual publication schedule. This shift was motivated by the evolving needs of the academic and scientific community.  

The members of the editorial board play an important role in shaping the direction and success of the journal. Their commitment goes beyond merely reviewing its content; they are deeply dedicated to ensuring the journal’s growth and long-term sustainability. Their key responsibility is to uphold the highest standards of scientific publishing, making certain that the published articles are rigorous, well-researched, and aligned with the best practices in the academic world. This involves meticulous peer review, editorial oversight, and a continuous focus on enhancing the journal’s credibility and reputation within the global academic community. Furthermore, the editorial board is actively working toward making the journal internationally recognised and accessible. To achieve this desired goal, the members have made it a priority to have the journal indexed in prominent international databases. Indexing in these databases is a crucial step, as it allows the journal to reach a broader audience, increasing its visibility and facilitating its integration into the global network of scholarly work. Their efforts contribute to the journal’s mission of promoting scientific knowledge worldwide, ensuring that it remains a trusted resource for researchers, practitioners, and academics from all corners of the globe.
