Abstract

This paper deals with the translation of technical terms from English into Arabic. It uses a comparative approach between the original and the translation. It first presents the specificities of technical texts, then some software engineering terms are selected with their translations and are analyzed on a terminological approach. It results in the fact that when the target language, here Arabic language, lacks an equivalent for a specific term, it is mainly dealt with on the basis of literal translation, explicitation and loan words. We observed a lack of consistency in the usage of Arabic terms and a major need for thematic knowledge prior to the practice of any specialized translation.
