Abstract
Translating the Cultural Anthroponym in the DibianNordic Trilogy: Preservation of Foreignness and/ or Fundamental Meaning
This study is considered to be a part of a larger scope of research on the cultural issues of literary translations. It is mainly devoted to tackle the issue of translating anthroponyms as “Culturèmes” as being particular cultural units in Mohammed Dib’s novels: Les Terrasses d’Orsol (1985), Le sommeil d’Eve (1989) and Neiges de marbre (2003). This paper relies on studies of Cultural Units Translation: Lungu- Badea (2012) and Ballard (2001) in order to compare the provided options under two strategies: Foreignization and Domestication. In fact, the various processes can be revealed by the analysis of some particular examples taken from the Arabic translation of the Nordic trilogy.
