Adaptation in the translation of documentaries التكييف في ترجمة الفيلم الوثائقي

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to bring more clarity to the real nature of the adaptation concept, which has long been perceived as only a form of rewriting or an imitation of the original. The study is mainly focusing on the different forms that adaptation could take as a global strategy in the specific field of audiovisual translation, more precisely in the transfer of documentary films, a practice which goes beyond the simple technique of translation, generally used in specific cases. Hence, an overview of the concept will be provided to determine its definition, and so a scheme demonstrating how could adaptation be applied as a strategy in translating audiovisual texts, principally in translating documentaries.
