Abstract

This issue of the journal presents a rigorous collection of fourteen scholarly articles, systematically covering the key domains within translation studies, language pedagogy, intercultural communication, and applied linguistics. Collectively, the contributions offer a comprehensive investigation into the multifaceted dimensions of translation processes, linguistic competence, and cultural mediation across a diverse range of languages and sociolinguistic contexts, including Arabic, French, Spanish, English, Ukrainian, and Tolaki. Several articles investigate translation strategies in media and literature, such as the adaptation of movie titles, comics, and news discourse. These studies highlight the interplay between fidelity, cultural adaptation, and audience reception. Further studies examine the challenges inherent in specialized text translation, particularly within religious discourse, emphasizing the necessity of negotiating ideological, theological, and fine-grained semantic dimensions. Pedagogical approaches are also a core focus in this issue, with studies exploring the efficacy of cultural immersion techniques, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) models, targeted phraseology instruction, and the strategic integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) into modern language curricula. Finally, research on communicative competence, sociolinguistic attitudes, and self-translation in political discourse. Further contributions explore communicative competence, sociolinguistic attitudes, and the distinctive dynamics of self-translation in political discourse, shedding light on the intricate relationships between language, society, and professional practice. Taken together, the articles highlight the complexity, interdisciplinarity, and applied significance of contemporary translation and language research. This foreword situates the contributions within current scholarly debates, elucidates their thematic interconnections, and underscores their implications for research, pedagogy, and professional practice.

Author Biographies

Ghania Ouahmiche , University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed–Algeria

Ouahmiche Ghania is a full Professor of Applied Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, and Language Sciences at University of Oran 2, in the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of English. She holds two Ph. Ds—one in Sociolinguistics and Language Planning and another in French Didactics and Language Sciences—and a Licence in Theology and Religious Studies. With over 26 years of experience teaching English at University of Oran, she began her academic career in 1998 as a part-time instructor in the Department of English. Prof Ghania Ouahmiche has held several roles, including Editor-in-Chief of Traduction et Langues, the Journal of Translation and Languages TRANSLANG, since 2015, Head of Translation and Methodology Laboratory TRANSMED since 2021, and Head of the Master's Program in ESP and Specialized Discourses. In November 2024, she was appointed Chair of the Commission of Visibility and Ranking at University of Oran 2. Her research interests cover a range of fields within her areas of expertise, including English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Applied Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Phonetics and Phonology, Translation Studies, and Theology and Religious Studies. She has coordinated and led a large number of research projects, demonstrating her expertise in various academic and scientific domains. Also, she has chaired numerous national and international colloquia and symposiums, demonstrating her prominent role in academic events. 

Yamina Belal, University of Oran 2 Mohamed Ben Ahmed–Algeria

Yamina Belal is an Associate Professor in the English Department at Mohamed Ben Ahmed University. She holds a PhD in the didactics of English from the same university. Her long experience in TEFL (more than twenty years) has allowed her to have an understanding of the complexity of language teaching and learning. Her academic career started with a Magister in the didactics of literature for EFL in 2012. Since that time, she has been interested in researching literature teaching in the EFL context. Her other research interests include the psychology of the language learner and the use of technology and AI in teaching.

Julianah Ajoke Akindele, Osun State University, Osogbo-Nigeria

Julianah Ajoke Akindele is an Associate Professor at the Department of English and Literary Studies, Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria. Her academic interest focuses on the use of spoken language to investigate societal issues and L2 speech perception, production, and comprehension challenges. This has hugely influenced her interest as a Phonologist, and Socio and Applied Linguist. She is well-published in reputable local and international journals.

Victor Ayomide Fabunmi, Osun State University, Osogbo-Nigeria

Victor Fabunmi is a Postgraduate student in the Department of English and Literary Studies, Osun State University, Osogbo, Nigeria. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and International Studies and a Master of Arts Degree in English (Language) from Osun State University. His academic interest focus is on Applied and Forensic Phonology. He is a committed and highly proactive researcher who is always ready to take up challenges and get positive results.

Emily Ayieta Ondondo, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST)-Kenya

Emily Ayieta Ondondo, PhD, studied Linguistics at the University of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. She is an Associate Professor of Linguistics at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), Kenya. She was formerly a Senior Lecturer of Linguistics at JOOUST and a former Lecturer of Linguistics at Pwani University, Kenya; Kigali Institute of Education, Rwanda; a Visiting Lecturer at the National University of Rwanda; and a Casual Lecturer at University of Newcastle, Australia. She is interested in research in Communication studies and the Documentation, Description, Analysis, and Application of Bantu and African Linguistics: Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Lexicography, and Lexical Computing. Prof. Ondondo is a registered and active member of the Language Association of Eastern Africa (LAEA).
